Hi everyone! Or I guess not hi everyone just hi to the 5 people who are reading this :)
This week was a lot of fun, on Monday we went to Shenanigans (which a member here owns) and they gave us free VIP passes so we could do as much bowling, laser tag, pool, and arcade as we wanted haha--it was a lot of fun we met as a District and had a great time. Monday evening we went out with Chandler in his super nice all black Camero! It was a lot of fun racing around the starry countryside in that! We found a new family to teach in the Heath ward who seem really awesome!
Tuesday we had lunch at Standard Service with Jack which was fun! He's changed so much I can't believe it. He used to be so sarcastic and never serious but our whole lunch with him we were able to have some great genuine conversation! He's excited for his baptism. After lunch we went out with Kyle and stopped by some people in Fate.
For dinner we had Prime Rib with the Chavez's, which is the second time I've had Prime Rib this transfer haha--In the evening we went out with Kyle's brother Eric and drove out accross the bridge to Rowlett! Rowlett is such a cute little city, the only problem is the traffic. After we made some visits there we got in the long line of cars to cross the bridge and it was SO LONG! We could do nothing except sit and feel trapped. It took us an hour and a half to get out haha--it was really fun talking to Eric Though! Only problem is it made us super late to our lessons, but it all worked out. Traffic is one of those forces of nature that cannot be controlled which makes it almost peaceful to get caught in it cause you know you've done all you can do and now it's time for Christ to take over ;)
We great lessons with Tony and Jack, we taught Tony the Word of Wisdom. The Coffee part caught him off guard, and he seemed sad about it, but then unpromted he said "I promise to do my best to keep the Word of Wisdom!" Which is awesome, he then told us how it's a small price to pay for the blessings that come.
Wednesday was Park-your-car day, so we did some biking. In the afternoon we got Luke to come out with us and we drove way out to Terrell! We had felt like we needed to go there and we had no member for the afternoon and that would be a longggg bike ride, but we put it in anyway and then prayed we could find a member. We texted a bunch of members and then luckily found one. Luke later told us that he had not wanted to come but his mom said to pray about it and he did, and then he read a scripture saying to stop being slothful haha--so he came with us! One lady we talked to in Terrell said they'd been searching for a new church and God must have sent us!
In the evening we went out with Brother Hobbs, and then after our evening around 8 we went and hung out with Jack and Victoria for our dinner hour (which we had moved since nobody else had signed up to feed us and because they really wanted us to come over).
On Thursday we did some service, and then we had District Council and our Zone Call. In the evening we went and taught the Collier family, and Patriarch Smart and his wife came with us! We had an awesome Spiritual lesson, we are hoping to put them on date to be baptized next time! The Smarts had so many great insights and could relate to the Colliers in ways we could not. After our lesson we had an SPR meeting which was fun, this Stake seems really supportive of us! They are going to focus on retention more because there are a lot of recent converts.
On Friday we recalled a restaurant referrals we got from Brother Hobbs called Boots Burgers. So we decided to drive to North Rockwall and check it out. Let me describe the experience:
First you drive up to this old rickety house, unsure if it's the right place, until you see an old falling-apart carport and booth at the back of the house with signs signaling you are at the right place. You walk up and they have a notecard with the menu on it. You can get a single or double Burger, and if you really want you can also get some chips. You walk up and a slightly hidden bearded face pokes his head out a small window and asks you in a gruff voice what you want. You of course order a burger as that is the option you have. Then you go and sit on these benches in their yard smelling the grease of burgers for 10 minutes contemplating what brought you to this point. When your name is called you are handed a small brown bag with some greasy finger prints on it and then you have to leave and eat it somewhere else cause they aren't legally licensed as a restaurant so to keep from getting in trouble you have to leave. Once you arrive at a park you open the bag and take out the burger. The more bites you take the better it tastes and you realize it was all worth it. After eating it you look back on it with more and more fondness wishing you had gotten 2 or 3 Burgers. The whole experience sounds more and more appealing the more you think back on it. The only way to describe the burger looking back is "it was just so good."
So that's kinda what it was like. Probably one of the most homemade tasting burgers I've had on my mission. And I bet no other missionaries have ever gone to this place, it's only a place the locals appreciate and know about, and if it weren't for us just deciding to go we would have never found it!
In the afternoon we exchanged with the APs which was fun, I went up to Allen 2/7 with Elder Gardner and Elder Esplin went down to Heath with Elder Sauer. It was a fun exchange, we went out with a member from the Allen 2nd ward and made a lot of great contacts and found a couple potentially interested people! Elder Gardner is cool, definitely a very numbers-focused guy which is not the best but he's really nice.
On Saturday we exchanged back and then had Tony's baptism in the evening! It went soo well we had some cool people from the YSA show up and Tony said he felt 1000× lighter after he was baptized! He loved it and seemed to just be super happy the rest of the night. Then we went out with Spencer who I love going out with, and stopped by some members in McLendon-Chisholm.
Sunday was also fun, I confirmed Tony, gave a talk, and we also did a missionary moment thing with the primary.
